Scholarships
The Glendive Medical Center (GMC) Foundation offers several scholarships each year, with awards announced in July.
GMC Foundation Scholarship Application
The Sobotka Scholarship
August and Mary Sobotka generously gifted the proceeds from the sale of their ranch to Glendive Medical Center, creating the Sobotka Endowment. This endowment provides an annul $5,000 total in scholarships to a student pursuing a career in health care. Eligible applicants must be enrolled full-time and in the second half of their overall program.
MJB Nursing Scholarship
Awarded each spring, the MJB Nursing Scholarship provides $1,000 to a registered nursing student or a student pursuing a degree in a medical profession. Applicants must be full-time and in the second half of their program.
Barbara Markham Scholarship
The Barbara Markham Accounting / Business scholarship provides $1,000 each spring to a student pursuing a degree in accounting or business. Eligible candidates must be enrolled full-time and in the second half of their program.
Tena Brown Memorial Scholarship
The Ernestena “Tena” Brown Scholarship, awarded each spring, provides $500 to a student pursing an advanced degree in medical or dental health care. Applicants must be full-time students in the second half of their program.
These scholarships support students pursing careers in the medical field, with the Markham Scholarship also available for those studying business and accounting.
Candidates must be enrolled full-time and in the second half of their program to apply. Please complete and submit the application on or before April 15.
IMPORTANT! Please read the official rules and requirements before applying:
Rules for GMC Foundation Scholarships:
1. All applications, reference letters, and transcripts are due in the Foundation office by 5:00 pm on April 15 of each year. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
2. Students must have a cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. A sealed, official college transcript must be sent to the Foundation office.
3. Students must be registered full-time in an accredited baccalaureate or graduate-level program, and have completed at least half of their program to apply.
4. A 250-word essay stating, "Why I chose my major and how I will contribute to my chose profession upon graduation" must be submitted with the application.
5. Three personal references must be submitted, using the online recommendation form, or sent in sealed envelopes to the Foundation Director. At least one reference must be from an instructor. References from relatives are not acceptable.
6. All completed applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee in May. Finalists will be selected and invited for phone or virtual interviews.
7. Selected recipients will be notified in writing and recognized in July. Scholarships are paid directly to the colleges after the start of the new fiscal year (July 1.)
8. Recipients must remain enrolled full time for the entire academic year in which they receive the award. If a student is no longer enrolled, the Foundation Director will notify the college and request return of the scholarship funds.
9. For applicants to the MJB Nursing Scholarship, preference is given to those employed by Glendive Medical Center at the time of application.
