Glendive Medical Center Will Offer Workshop in Managing Chronic Illness

Glendive, Montana, September 11, 2017 - Glendive Medical Center (GMC) will once again offer the Living Life Well workshops to members of the community. The Living Life Well Workshops empower participants to take an active role in managing their health. Participants learn skills needed in the day-to-day management of chronic health conditions such as arthritis, asthma, diabetes, heart and lung disease. The workshop does not address specific illnesses; rather it addresses common challenges to chronic illnesses.

The class meets at Glendive Medical Center and is led by two community members Linda O'Conner and Marie-Christine Lamphier. Marie-Christine, a former student of the workshop, says "I felt like I was controlled by my disease but the workshop gave me back control and the knowledge to take an active role in my health. Many people feel like there is nothing they can do but these workshops teach you what you can do and what you can't do."

Linda added "When people are diagnosed with a chronic illness they just have to live with the obstacles it created before them. The workshop teaches the participants tools to deal with the illness and its obstacles. Since everyone is different and is dealing with different illnesses the program teaches many different tools so you can find what works best for you. A chronic illness doesn't have to put your life on hold."

This program will be offered Thursdays starting September 21st. Cost is $25. To register or for questions, please contact Penny Maher, RN at 406-345-3309 or pemaher@gmc.org.
