GMC Foundation Announces Major Gift Contribution

lendive, Montana, March 7, 2013 - The Glendive Medical Center (GMC) Foundation announced today the receipt of a major gift from Craig J. Anderson, who is the current Dawson County Sheriff. The planned gift, which is in the form of a Charitable Remainder UniTrust (CRUT) involves the Centennial Apartments, which has 8 units and is located at 821 South Pearson, Glendive, MT. The property is currently valued at more than half a million dollars. "We are very pleased to accept this legacy gift from Sheriff Anderson. Through this unselfish act, he has made a gift that will have a lasting effect on the wellbeing of GMC and our community," commented Carol Condon, Foundation Director.

Condon explained that the Centennial Apartments has been placed in an irrevocable CRUT created by Anderson in 2010 in accordance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Code. The CRUT has two primary functions: to provide financial distributions to the donor throughout their lifetime and upon the death of the donor, the remaining CRUT assets are distributed to a charitable organization, such as the GMC Foundation.

Under normal circumstances the CRUT would sell the property and the proceeds would be invested. However, given the high demand for rental housing in Glendive and GMC's need for temporary employee housing, GMC will lease the complex. GMC, which already leases three of the units, will work closely with the remaining tenants to ensure a smooth transition. "We plan to meet individually with each tenant as it is our desire to retain them going forward," stated Todd Opp, Director of Support Services.

Anderson has a prominent history of community service and philanthropy. He was a member of the GMC Board of Directors for 15 years, serving as chair for 7 years and was selected Trustee of the Year in 1999 by the Montana Hospital Association. In addition, he was also instrumental in establishing the GMC Hospice Endowment Fund. "On behalf of the entire GMC organization, we're humbled by this gracious gift from Craig and Deb. They truly exemplify the spirit of giving and service above oneself," Condon added. For more information on planned gifts and their tax advantages, please contact Carol Condon, at 406-345-8996.
